When we are in a public place, we must pay the same attention as when driving in heavy traffic. We don’t need to be paranoid, just aware of our surroundings and truly see, not just look. This way, we can identify potential dangers before they fully develop into threats to our lives or physical integrity.
These days, in Germany and Austria, there have been consecutive attacks by Islamist terrorists targeting pedestrians in public places. In one case, the attacker used his car to hit innocent bystanders, while in other cases, the perpetrators used knives. There would likely have been fewer casualties if the victims had been more attentive to what was happening around them.
Unfortunately, times have changed for the worse, and we must adapt.
