Many martial arts systems, both traditional and modernized, are good for physical and mental wellbeing, although much of the technical skill taught in these systems rely on strict adherence to sport related rules and constraints, thus restraining the practitioner to a technical basis with limited effectiveness in the real world. 

In short, these techniques do little or nothing to help the practitioner of such systems to remain safe or to be able to effectively protect themselves in a dangerous real life physical encounter with a determined criminal or enemy who seeks to harm or kill them or their loved ones.
